26-18
Finals score 18-26. New boy Saia Makisi replaced the injured Rob Jackson in the centres whilst both Liam Finch and Howard Hill did not feature. This meant a half back partnership of Carl Rudd and John Duffy with Scott McAvoy playing at Loose Forward. Workington have been improving since the Ike Southward Memorial thrashing at the end of 2007 and that certainly showed in today's game. Town opened the scoring after 9 minutes with Carl Forber converting a penalty. Centre Derry Eilbeck then crossed for Haven although the conversion was missed by Rudd. After 28 minutes, Richard Fletcher stormed over to increase Havens lead, with Rudd adding the extras. This was to be the final score of the half leaving the game at 10-2 in favour of Haven. Three minutes into the second half, Carl Sice went over with Rudd converting. Many could have thought the floodgates would open, although Town fought back well. A converted try by routledge and two quick penalties kicked by Carl Forber put Town right back in it leaving them trailing just 16-12. Craig Calvert then touched down for his first try of the season, although Rudd failed to add the extras. Martin Keavney gave Town hope of an upset to score a converted try to put the score at 20-18 to Haven. However Haven scored the final points of the game with Craig Calvert going over in the corner. This left the final score a 26-18 in favour of Haven, a scoreline few had predicted.
