Haven Flop in last League Fixture
Sheffield 26 Whitehaven 14

As Sky TV cameras rolled Haven wilted. Just four days after a superb contest against Widnes Haven lacked sparkle. Illness and injuries weakened Haven.

Carl Rudd broke through first in the 13th minute. The scrum-half kicked through and followed up to touch down. Rudd added the extras to put Haven 6-0 up, but a succession of penalties quickly put them on the front foot. Soon after Ged Corcoran was in for a try, Woodcock’s conversion levelling matters. The Yorkshire outfit went ahead when Steve Trindall tackled Tom Buckenham before he collected the ball and Woodcock took the penalty. Haven appeared still a force after Rudd goaled a penalty and then almost put Scott Teare in for a try, only for Eagle's defence to deny the prop. Sice also narrowly missed a try opportunity.

Half-time saw the scoreline 8-8.

In the second spell Gavin Brown, scored and Woodcock converted. Derry Eilbeck then appeared to make a decisive break through, touching down Joe’s chip, only for the video ref to rule No Try. Sice desperate clearance under pressure saw Eagles centre Damien Reid react, snatching a try. Woodcock’s conversion gave his side a 12-point cushion. David Fatialofa lifted Haven with a great break from his own half, and on their next set, the Kiwi was only just held up over the home side’s line. But it was Sheffield who were next on the scoreboard, Woodcock making Haven pay for a high tackle with a penalty goal. The Cumbrians fought back with Gary Broadbent touching down. Rudd converted and Haven continued to press but the hosts had the last word, winger Danny Mills crossing. Woodock missed the conversion attempt – after the final hooter - which meant Haven had secured a bonus point.
