Should Have Taken the Pens!

If only Haven had taken the points when they had the chance of
easy penalty kicks in both halves they would have had a Tie in
this dramatic battle.
Visiting
Widnes looked like making it a walkover in the opening minutes
with two quick fire tries .The first as Moran split the defence
and allowed Grix in. The second as Moran kicked through for Bland
to touchdown.
Great
play by Scott McAvoy created the start of Haven;s fight back.
He got the ball to Maden for his try. Rudd converted to make
it 6-10. At this stage McCormack told his lads (including half
of a previous Haven team!) to take the two points from a penalty.
If Haven had used similar decision making in both halves they
would not suffered their ultimate defeat.
After
a doubtful decision by ref Taberner to give a penalty for obstruction
Dodd drove in to extend Widnes lead..
In
the second half aggro between the sides rose as both teams got
stuck-in with gusto. Fletcher for Haven and Aaron Summers for
Widnes were sin binned.
Local
hero Sice then created a chance for Rudd to score as Haven piled
on more and more pressure. Rudd converted his own try to keep
his point scoring ever rising.
Maden
must have hung his head after he fluffed a clearance and handed
Dodd an east peasy try. A Rudd chip and great play from Seeds
gave Calvert the key to the door and with Rudd's conversion it
was 18-22 as Widnes were kept nailed down to the Kells end as
Haven came so close on several attempts.
Gate
was a disappointing : 2,360 for what was truly value for money
for excitement.
