Leeds crowd-puller

February 9th 2003
Rhinos had their expected win in the Cup.
46-6 full time. But Whitehaven
were not overawed by the occasion and got the first points on
the board catching Gary Connolly behind his own line in the opening
minutes. Refreshing cash boost for the Whitehaven coffers from
their share of the Leeds attendance.A high tackle on Phil Sherwen
produced the opening score, a comfortable penalty for Darren
Holt - but the visitors were then made to pay for a series of
penalties.Burrow scored Leeds' opening try. Wayne McDonald charged
over after more indiscipline relieved the Leeds line and after
19 minutes Chris McKenna marked his debut with a try from close
range after a pass from Diskin.David Fatialofa added power to
the Whitehaven line and his pass gave Graeme Morton the chance
to score in the 25th minute to reduce the deficit to 18-6.
But Sinfield scored just before
the break and after the turn around it was all one way traffic.

Chorley win was Emphatic
Chorley 2-28 Haven
A good win for the Haven
,that was more emphatic than the scoreline suggests.
Chorley scored first with a penalty , but Haven replied quickly
witha Spencer Miller try to put us back infront and we never
looked like losing the advantage from there .
Both David Seeds and Aaron Lester could have scored first half
touchdowns but were stopped inches short .We could have been
12 points ahead at the half but had to settle for 6-2
After the break there was never any doubt about the outcome as
we scored further tyrs through Lee Kiddie (2) David Seeds and
Paul Oneill with Darren Holt kicking 3 more goals .
A good all round team performance based on solid defence . One
ot two minor injuries ,notably Leroy, but nothing serious and
everyone should be fit for the big one at Leeds next Sunday
