August 3 2008
Whitehaven slumped to an 18-16 defeat at bottom placed Dewsbury

Tries from Scott McAvoy, Craig Calvert and Ade Adebisi and two conversions from Tane Manihera weren't enough to prevent defeat.

August 7 2008
52-8 victory on Sky TV

Ged Stokes made a couple of changes from the defeat at Dewsbury with Andy Gorski missing out. John Patrick started in the centre with Scott McAvoy slotting in the second row. Danny Barker took a place on the bench along with Ryan McDonald, Marc Jackson and Scott Teare.

A Woodcock penalty opened for Sheffield.

However Haven hit back when Ade Adebisi chased after a Tane Manihera kick which seemed like a lost cause. The flying winger produced a specatuclar dive to score in the corner. Manihera missed the conversion.

On 19 minutes Manihera added two points by converting a penalty. Spencer Miller crossed on 32 minutes after collecting a good Scott Teare offload. Manihera suprisingly missed the conversion to leave the half time score at 10-2 to Haven.

Coach Ged Stokes must have told the Haven troops to lift their game at the half time interval as Scott McAvoy crashed over in the corner on 41 minutes. Manihera superbly converted from the touchline.

On 45 minutes Scott McAvoy broke the Sheffield line and passed to to Gary Broadbent who went in to the right of the posts. Manihera again converted.

Manihera then scored a try himself after a superb break by Howard Hill. The veteran forward produced a fantastic sidestep before offloading to the experience Kiwi who dived in near the posts. Manihera then converted his own try.

Howard Hill once again was a provider after he passed outwide to Craig Calvert who dived in the corner after doing some good work to stay in the field of play. Manihera again converted from the touchline.

No nonsense forward Marc Jackson powered his way over from 10 metres after going right through Dominic Brambani to touch down under the posts. Manihera added the extras.

Graeme Mattinson scored a typical hookers try on 70 minutes after he spun in the tackle to get the ball down under the posts. Manihera once again was successful with the boot.

The final Haven score came from Mark Jackson after he collected a Scott Teare offload, drove over the line and twisted in the tackle to get the ball down. Manihera added the extras to take his personal tally for the night to 20 points.

It was Sheffield who had the final score of the game though with Worrincy going over out wide with Woodcock converting.

The fantastic second half display was made by a dominating Whitehaven front row. Karl Edmonson, Marc Jackson and Ryan McDonald all had excellent games as did Howard Hill who started at prop. Scott Teare was also very effective off the bench by providing good offloads which led to tries.

Saia Makisi also came up with some big hits whilst Leroy Joe and Tane Manihera controlled things in the middle of the park.

Haven will now face Leigh at Hilton Park in 10 days time with both teams chasing a 4th spot in the league.
