March 16
2008
Haven 38- Halifax 16.
With Derry Eilbeck and Richard Fletcher absent, in stepped Tongan International
Saia Makisi and teenager Marc Shackley. Young prop David Ford retained
his place on the bench after an impressive display against Leigh Miners
Rangers last week. Halifax started the game well by putting huge amounts
of pressure Haven line but failed to break through. The first score of
the afternoon came after a Howard Hill break which eventually led to Craig
Calvert scoring which Carl Rudd converted. Richard Varkulis was given
10 minutes in the sin bin for holding down. The big centre had been caught
on two previous occasions to leave the ref with no option but to show
the yellow card. Two quick tries from Rob Jackson and Liam Finch put Haven
firmly in command with Rudd tagging on 1 conversion. Carl Sice scored
the final try of the half as a kick through came off the post and fell
into the hookers arms. Carl Rudd converted to leave the score at 22-0
to Haven at half time. Haven got the first score in the second half with
Rudd slotting over a penalty. However Liam Finch then received 10 minutes
in the sin bin which allows Halifax to score two tries through Varkulis
and Gibson. Govin tagged on 1 conversion.
A lovely
pass to a hard running Scott McAvoy saw the big second-rower crash over
with Rudd Converting. With 5 minutes to go, Carl Sice went straight over
from a penalty infront of the sticks with Rudd converting. Halifax had
the final score of the match though with Gorski going over in the final
minute of the game with Govin converting.

Featherstone Rovers 28- Haven 6
After
a not so Good Friday...Featherstone Rovers 28 Whitehaven 6, Haven went
down 6-19 to visiting Batley on an icy Easter Monday. Unable to make any
headway through the Batley defences the sole home try from Craig Calvert,
converted by Rudd. Scores for Batley from Fogborun, Maloney and Henderson.
Goals (4) from K.King.22 Mar 2008 - Whitehaven went down to a 28-6 defeat
last night to Featherstone Rovers at the Chris Moyles Stadium. The conditions
were blizzard like for a majority of the match. David Fatialofa made his
return on the bench after being sidelined with an injury. Saia Makisi
did not make the starting line up and Marc Jackson was absent with a shoulder
injury. Ade Adebisi, who was subject to abuse throughout the game, scored
a try in the corner against his former club. The highlight for Haven's
whole evening was the conversion by Rudd. Despite the strong wind, Rudd
curled the ball in, it hit the crossbar and went over.

Haven 6 Batley 19
Paul Crarey named an unchanged side from the team that faced Featherstone
on Friday night, leaving out Tongan Saia Makisi.Craig Calvert scored in
the second half with Rudd converting. Despite lots of pressure on the
Batley line, Haven couldn't break through. To add insult to injury, Francis
Maloney kicked a drop goal in the dying minutes to deny Haven with a bonus
point.
