The Reluctant Choirboy
Written to celebrate the 250th
anniversary of St James Church, Whitehaven in July 2003.
Set in eighteenth century Georgian Whitehaven, Samson Jennings
and his mother are climbing up to the newly completed church
to meet the new incumbent, the Reverend Thomas Spedding. Samson
thinks hes being asked to see the vicar because hes
been collecting fallen apples from the orchards on Castle Meadows.
However, it is not about apples, but something that Samson has
never for a moment foreseen or expected.
