Fourth Defeat

June 9 2002
Oldham 46(18-4) 12 Haven
Hurst Cross, home of soccer outfit Ashton United now doubles up as Oldhams ground such is the state of the NFP.
Having started without injured duo Gary Purdham (dead leg) and on loan Peter Lupton (thigh) their
cause certainly wasn't helped by club skipper Aaron Lester's dismissal for flattening Oldham hooker Keith Brennan just minutes after coming on the field. Richard Silverwood had no choice but to
show the red card to the New Zealander who then left Haven with just 12 men for much of the game.

Oldham opened the scoring as scrum half Neil Roden touched down by the posts. Gareth Barber converted. Soon after he scored again. After the red carding of the skipper Dean Vaughan scored just before the break.
Haven fought back briefly. They opened up on the attack and with Leroy Joe and Steve Kirkbride conducting play it was no surprise when they reduced the arrears by enabling Morton to touch down.

Kirkbride missed the conversion. Any come back hope was snuffed out when

Lee Doran fed to Dodd for another Oldham try. Soon after Mark Sibson scored twice in two minutes.

Anthony Gibbons and Barber added more pain. Ryan Campbell got a consolation try in the stoppage time. No wonder Cullen and some of the travelling fans gave Haven a roasting afterwards.
