Featherstone 20- 19 Whitehaven
Slippage from second place in the table after this cruel last
minute defeat, literally We Wos Robbed.(February 3 2002)
Ref Ian Smith blew away Haven
in the closing minutes of this sad debacle.
He awarded a controversial penalty for an instinctive retaliation
to a high tackle from Leroy Joe.
Haven had looked to have won but Rooney slipped through for Feathers
to snatch the game from the visitors.
The run of play had been: a Chapman try and two goals and a drop
goal saw Featherstone opening the play.
Ever dynamic Leroy Joe was play-maker in getting Haven back on
board.
He scored two tries either side of the interval.
Fitness, and the downhill slope, gave Haven the lift to fight
back. That man Seeds was again on the score sheet with a try,
followed soon after by Brow's Marc Jackson over the line.
Paul'O'Neil converted and a bonus drop goal from Joe gave Haven
a nine point advantage. But Feathers snatched up a loose ball
to come back with a try as the pathetic finale unfolded.
Featherstone's Fairhurst admitted his side had been "fortunate"....He
might not have been so lucky had the Terminator been about.
