Cougars were Hard Work
Whitehaven struggled to beat
Keighley Cougars 14-10 after having a man sent off. It did give
youngster Dean Burgess a chance to give a good first team account
of himself.
At Keighley Haven gave away
possession too cheaply, but won the match with sheer grit and
stamina after Chris McKinney's 49th-minute dismissal for a high
tackle only 30 seconds after coming on as a substitute.
Whitehaven dominated the early exchanges but could not penetrate
the Keighley line. The Cougars took the lead after 13 minutes
when James Rushforth crossed for a try, converted by Adam Mitchell.
Whitehaven only levelled seconds before the half-time hooter
with Ryan Campbell getting four points and Paul O'Neill adding
the extra two. Danny Fearon's unconverted try restored Keighley's
lead, but Whitehaven clinched the match with a Graham Morton
try, which was converted by O'Neill, who also kicked a penalty. |
