Town's unbeaten record dies
in the snow
Haven 28 (8-14)14 Workington
Town
By the Marra
Date: 26/12/2001
A crowd of over 3,690 cheered
to the stand tops after Haven came back from trailing at half-time
to trounce Workington Town. Rob Purdham was absent with Food
Poisoning but Haven showed they had talent aplently.
The fans could not have asked
for a more exciting finish.
Town made the early scoring mainly from former Haven players
likes Bone and Lewty. Half-time (8-14)saw Haven on the back foot
and not playing the ball around as much as the visitors. But
Leroy Joe, voted Man of the Match by match sponsors, the Whitehaven
News, was ever creative and Aaaron Lester played his socks off
until he limped off having led his team to a victorious second
half. The only Haven try in the first half came from Seedsy.
Aaron created the chances and Wes Wilson got a try just as the
heavens opened and driving sleet forced the Town squad back into
their bunkers. Haven from there on were rampant and steadily
hammered Town down.
Paul O'Neill then scored on the wing and converted. It was then
a steady rout of the Jameaters.Making it 18-14 to Haven.
Aaron then scored thanks to a build up from Leroy Joe. O'Neil
converted.(24-14) Icing on the cake was a final try from David
Seeds after a neat tap thru from Joe..
